Channing Tatum says Gambit ‘X-Men’ movie to drop in 2016

NEWS BY DAILY NEWS:

"X-Men" fans will have to wait until deep into 2016 to see Channing Tatum don Gambit's signature trench coat.

The actor appeared to confirm the release date of his X-Men spinoff on Twitter Monday with a reference to the card-slinging mutant's Louisiana's heritage.

"How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?" the "Magic Mike" actor quipped.

Tatum, 34, was first confirmed to play Gambit, whose real name is Remy LeBeau, in May, when "X-Men" series producer Lauren Shuler Donner made the casting announcement during a red carpet interview.

"He's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau," Donner said. "And he can handle the action, we all know that."

Tatum's got several projects lined up between now and then, including a "Magic Mike" sequel and a turn in Quentin Tarantino's western "The Hateful Eight."

Gambit's a lesser-known mutant of the "X-Men" universe, but appeared on screen before in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," where he was played by "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch.
